Re: Fraction kerning

Maybe a workaround ( not ideal but workable if you have a tight deadline ) would be to decompose and manually space the numbers and slashes in fractions.

How many rounds of Kern On make sense to do?

I have been experimenting with a three-master design and I have done maybe 5-6 rounds for each master. In theory I suppose if you like your results you can just do one round. But speaking partly from the point of view of an idealist and partly from the point of view of practicality, and assuming you...

Pan African Latin

I was wondering if Kern On Supports Pan African Latin. Some of it may be easy in the sense that there is a common base glyph with (for me) a novel diacritic use. But others like the 'bhook' or 'dhook' might need to be written into a formal Kern On definition. 'Oopen' for example might be able to use...

Re: Other scripts

Today in TypeTech Tim talked about the way forward with some other scripts. So it sounds like it may a feature that is coming.

Re: Kern table overflow

I was chatting to Rainer by email and he said everything except for MS office circa 2000 supports extension kerning.

Re: Kern table overflow

I'd love it if the kerning in Glyphs 2 when generated by KO could make use of the extension kerning feature. I'm curious about what apps don't make use of the extension kerning. I'll have to look at that.

Re: Do we need kerning against the space character?

The letters where the word space tends to look brighter/bigger than a default those with big open white spaces. H H no and vs T T yes. The Latin glyphs that I sometimes like to kern with space in caps are : A T V W Y X both sides; Right side L C F P K G; Left side J. The suitability of the gyph to k...

Re: Does Kern on replace part of Glyphs?

What about kern classes? I think that with KO you must set these yourself. But am I mistaken? I hope that I am right and you do set your own because I think this would mean that KO will be useful in more varied kinds of styles for Latin script projects and it will probably be easier to apply to scri...

Re: Does Kern on replace part of Glyphs?

I did that you are looking to get everything done in one process ( used a few times in a row ) and not have in effect 'half a tool'. But I still wonder, after everything is written by KO and saved; I would like to be able to open the kerning palette again and let's say adjust a few things and then s...

Does Kern on replace part of Glyphs?

I'm also wondering, is Kern On placing data into the existing Glyphs kerning data structure or in some way replacing it? I am not familiar with the structures themselves so my question is not really technically informed. This is why it is so abstract.

Re: Kern table overflow

I'm asking this because of the warning about the 36kb limit in the video here https://kern-on.com/getting-started @ 6:42 ( near the end ).

Can you avoid kern table overflow with Kern On by using the "Use Extension Kerning" feature in glyphs?

Re: Do we need kerning against the space character?

I like to have kerns to space for text faces because it allows me to get a more even grey in a paragraph than I could otherwise get. I aim to make the space itself appear more constant in brightness. In a really large optical size display face I might also want to because all the spacing becomes mor...
