Re: Complex subsitutions leaving some pairs without AutoKerning

> My questions is, is there a way to tell/trick KO into assuming all letters > variants can appear next to each other? This wouldn't be an exact solution to the auto-kerning / kerning on the fly while using KO live. But, if they are pretty close to their standard counterparts, you can at least apply...

A quality of life question re:searching KO's forum

Hey Tim, Often times I search the KO forum for a couple keywords to see related posts. But I'm often met with the result that the word(s) were ignored because they are "too common", then nothing is displayed. For example, I've attached a screenshot of this result when searching the forum f...

Fighting with KO over the same kinds of model pairs regardless of font. What am I missing?

Hey Tim et al, Regardless of what font I’m working with in KO, I’m finding that with essentially any letters that have extremes amounts of natural white space (e.g. L, X, A, T, etc.), if I don’t set them as model pairs with lots of other glyphs, KO will either auto-kern them way too tight OR way too...

Geeze! Why would this even be a thing on a forum like this if the bot is engaging on the topic at hand (as opposed to posting spam hyperlinks? Cui bono?

Manual keyboard strokes don't always function properly after latest KO update (v 1.24)

Hey Tim, just a heads up: I've always been able to use the up and down keyboard strokes to adjust a given kerning pair value in the KO UI window. Since updating to the latest version and playing around, I've run into several instances of that not functioning as expected or at all. Sometimes it gives...

What role and/or influence do anchors have in the internal calculations of KO?

I've noticed several times when messing around with different parameters that the anchors in a glyph affect the calculations of the auto-kerning. Is that true? If so, would it be better to eliminate them as a variable altogether when developing ones KO models? For instance, I came across an HM pair ...

Re: Single point side bearing change leads to drastic auto-kerning

Ah, unfortunately I can't find the same file version to reproduce. My backups only go back a month and that just passed literally yesterday from when this exact instance of the file was in use. I went on to find workarounds with different models but hopefully this can still be helpful in some way ju...

Single point side bearing change leads to drastic auto-kerning

Most of the time, Kern On is spot on with its auto-kerning suggestions for zero kerning pairs, especially since the latest update with the “tighter grip”, and I have found that I’ve indeed needed fewer models to get consistent results. In general, I’ve also been taking Tim’s wonderful insight about ...

Re: Small kern pairs

As a recovering perfectionist, I love that Kern On helps find inconsistencies in spacing. I like the idea of being able to set a threshold at finalization, but I just wanted to share that I do think it's helpful to see kerning pairs below a 5-pt value while I'm refining and adjusting models.

Re: Need help understanding special spacing...

Hey Tim, what happens is a seemingly endless "Try again" loop in both instances. Clicked "Try again" ~15 times to no avail. Happy to send you the Glyphs file if that would help. Let me know and thank for your time!

Re: Need help understanding special spacing...

Another example of this. If my zero is in its own special spacing group, why is KO removing n–p as a model? It seems like KO is still referencing my standard kerning models rather than the other members of that special spacing group. All the numbers are in that special spacing group, and I have mult...

Need help understanding special spacing...

As I understand it, KO automatically groups numbers and uppercase as the same special spacing group as part of standard kerning. However, I'd like all my numbers to be a little more spaced out relative to each other. So, I put all the numbers in their own special spacing group but I keep running int...

Re: How many models is reasonable—can you have too many?

That script is great, will definitely use for some reference. Thanks for sharing! As I've gone through and toyed with more of the models, I do think it's helpful to not have so many. My first pass I just kept adding all the suggested models to see what would happen. After more review, it's seeming l...

How many models is reasonable—can you have too many?

I'm sure this is somewhat dependent on the font. As I've read different perspectives on this, it seems like anywhere from 50–100 can be a good starting place. I'm testing out running KO with almost 200 models in a font and I'm wondering if there's a reason I should stick to fewer models. My thought ...

Re: Too loose compared to the exact same interaction elsewhere?

Another example of this where both the Y and the A have the exact same side bearings and equal spacing. The KO model I have set from the A—Y is -15. However, the Y—A is auto kerned to -2. Do I need better models or does anyone have any idea what is causing these kind of inconsistencies?

Too loose compared to the exact same interaction elsewhere?

Really loving Kern On so far—thank you for your great work, Tim! Do we know what's causing something like this to happen, where KO is suggesting that the interaction is too loose / too tight when it sometimes is literally the same exact interaction in a glyph with the same angle and side bearings? I...

Re: Glyphs3 extension crashes app

Ah, thank you! No argument here :-) I set the parameters that way because I find it helpful to see the x-height in most scenarios. Hi Tim, I'm having the same problem in Glyphs 3 as Stephen. Kern On works fine while creating the initial >10 models, but when I click to "Kern On", Glyphs crashes. Any idea what might be causing this? I tried clearing the existing kerning, updating features, restarting Glyphs, etc. Also, ...
