Re: Small kern pairs

As a recovering perfectionist, I love that Kern On helps find inconsistencies in spacing. I like the idea of being able to set a threshold at finalization, but I just wanted to share that I do think it's helpful to see kerning pairs below a 5-pt value while I'm refining and adjusting models.

Re: Need help understanding special spacing...

Hey Tim, what happens is a seemingly endless "Try again" loop in both instances. Clicked "Try again" ~15 times to no avail. Happy to send you the Glyphs file if that would help. Let me know and thank for your time!

Re: Need help understanding special spacing...

Another example of this. If my zero is in its own special spacing group, why is KO removing n–p as a model? It seems like KO is still referencing my standard kerning models rather than the other members of that special spacing group. All the numbers are in that special spacing group, and I have mult...

Need help understanding special spacing...

As I understand it, KO automatically groups numbers and uppercase as the same special spacing group as part of standard kerning. However, I'd like all my numbers to be a little more spaced out relative to each other. So, I put all the numbers in their own special spacing group but I keep running int...

Re: How many models is reasonable—can you have too many?

That script is great, will definitely use for some reference. Thanks for sharing! As I've gone through and toyed with more of the models, I do think it's helpful to not have so many. My first pass I just kept adding all the suggested models to see what would happen. After more review, it's seeming l...

How many models is reasonable—can you have too many?

I'm sure this is somewhat dependent on the font. As I've read different perspectives on this, it seems like anywhere from 50–100 can be a good starting place. I'm testing out running KO with almost 200 models in a font and I'm wondering if there's a reason I should stick to fewer models. My thought ...

Re: Too loose compared to the exact same interaction elsewhere?

SCarewe wrote: > The A–Y "model" you have set in your screenshot is not a model, > it's set to Independent. Indeed! A poorly timed screenshot, I admit. I set it to independent to start adjusting the kerning how I wanted it right before the screenshot. It was a model right before I took thi...

Re: Too loose compared to the exact same interaction elsewhere?

Another example of this where both the Y and the A have the exact same side bearings and equal spacing. The KO model I have set from the A—Y is -15. However, the Y—A is auto kerned to -2. Do I need better models or does anyone have any idea what is causing these kind of inconsistencies?

Too loose compared to the exact same interaction elsewhere?

Really loving Kern On so far—thank you for your great work, Tim! Do we know what's causing something like this to happen, where KO is suggesting that the interaction is too loose / too tight when it sometimes is literally the same exact interaction in a glyph with the same angle and side bearings? I...

Re: Glyphs3 extension crashes app

Ah, thank you! No argument here :-) I set the parameters that way because I find it helpful to see the x-height in most scenarios. For example, by default, Glyphs 3 doesn't show the x-height when in Edit Mode of a capital letter. My workaround for displaying all the measurements was what you saw in ...

Re: Glyphs3 extension crashes app

Hi Tim, I'm having the same problem in Glyphs 3 as Stephen. Kern On works fine while creating the initial >10 models, but when I click to "Kern On", Glyphs crashes. Any idea what might be causing this? I tried clearing the existing kerning, updating features, restarting Glyphs, etc. Also, ...
