Re: "Blue Zone" kerning

I've been thinking about this more recently. Potentially I could implement it as a post-KO step going through the kerning one-by-one, but it would be much simpler (I think) to implement into KO directly as part of the step that evaluates the deviation between the ideal kern and the class kern, then ...

Re: in-Glyphs kerning not matching output

Hm. I understood what you wrote in the other thread, but I don't think that's the same as this issue. Here, the kern pair is being touched, it is just resulting in an odd and unexpected output. That said, I have since updated Glyphs and KernOn and am no longer seeing the issue. Not sure if there was...

Re: "Blue Zone" kerning

Thanks for the explanation Tim! That makes a lot of sense. Given how things work, what I had envisioned is to implement a user-specified filter into the step between where the deviations are calculated and when they are multiplied by the frequency of the pair. That way users have an opportunity to h...

in-Glyphs kerning not matching output

While reviewing kerning in a recent project, I noticed that the kerning shown by Kern On present in the Glyphs window does not match the ultimate kerning generated by Kern On. I'm aware that there are cases where a particular pair may not get kerning if it is too far down the frequency chart, but th...

"Blue Zone" kerning

I've been using Kern On on smaller projects to great success, but recently have applied it to a much larger project, including an extensive italic—Latin/Greek/Cyrillic with lots of alternates, variants, small caps, etc. and have been running into issues. Where keeping KernOn to a 32kb or 64kb max ke...

Re: Locking existing Kern-On data

Thanks for the reply Tim! The bubbles approach does sound like it would be useful when dealing with scripts that have markedly different characteristics (or situations where one should have no kerning and another does). > (we can’t rely on the shapes being identical for all glyphs in the group) This...

Locking existing Kern-On data

Given that Kern-On re-generates all kern data whenever it runs, I wonder about what will happen if I am updating an existing font project with additional glyphs. In particular, I'm concerned that the kern data could change if the program interprets something differently, leading to a break in backwa...

Re: Working with collaborators with KernOn

Thank you both! I don't often crack open Glyphs files in a text editor but I don't have a problem with doing so. I haven't locked down the process I'm planning to use, but it sounds like there's several key sections that will need to be merged. Specifically: "KernOnIndependentPairs" "...

Working with collaborators with KernOn

I am going to be working on a project soon where a collaborator will be working on the Cyrillic portion of the work. We are interested to use KernOn on the project, but it isn't clear to me how I can provide my collaborator with any master kerns that I add to the file, or integrate the master kerns ...
