Editing Groups

You mentioned the Groups in the Getting Started video. I can view these but how can I edit them? Is this something that I should be able to do? Does KO build the Groups based on what is in the font file? and as such Glyphs preferred naming needs to be followed? (i.e. a.sups NOT a.superior) — a.sups ...

Similar glyphs treated differently

Is there a reason why KO treats similar glyphs differently I had the word 'college†' and the dagger at the end was zero kerned – as I would want But 'college‡' had a -22 kern between the 's' and doubledagger. If anything I would have thought KO would open this pair. Generally I would fit many sorts ...

Overall 'grade' of kerning

Is there a way to perhaps set KO's approach to the overall kerning – along a scale to let it be 'Timid' to 'Aggressive' (Light to Tight). I've started following your vid and added the pairs you did and find that KO does like to tighten generally. It would be good to be able to tell it to 'hang loose...

Roman and Italic

In order to maintain a harmony of spacign between Roman and Italic I presume you need to set up KO in the Italic to match the Roman. If the Italic is a sloped Roman style then this is perhaps more of a requirement. Is the an easy way to copy all the Models and Independent pairs from one file to anot...

Re: Do we need kerning against the space character?

I do look at this, but am aware of combinations such as 'W W' or 'f W'. Sometimes I have swapped out the space with a space.wide, or space.narrow etc. I tend to review as a basic in consideration of standards and the whole type. Any kerns are small though. /H/H/H/space/H/H/H/space/O/O/O/space/O/O/O/...

Re: Over kerning

Tim, it's 0.9b6. I'm guessing they are the default figs (Oldstyle Proportional). Didn't make a note as I was kind of distracted by the result. :) I'll strip out the kerning and look at addressing KO properly – be a few days+ time though. – I do pull in the gkyphs to 'b' in this style of 'b' (serif t...

Over kerning

I've tried 'option 3' – Turning KO on with a fully kerned font. KO is adding kerns where not needed and over kerning. Obviously I've just opened a font and just run KO to see what it does without making any setting adjustments. What do I need to do to run an Auto kern and achieve acceptable results ...
