(Apologies if this has been discussed before)
The ‘Generating class kerning’ phase takes a long time and is only running one (?) thread. Can this not be sped up?

Auto-kern all layers command?
I need an auto-kern all layers command. Going through each layer and clicking ‘auto’ is too slow. Preferably I want to select a whole string of text and have ‘auto’ applied to all of the pairs in all of their layers in one go.
Is that possible?

Latin T and Cyrillic Т & Ћ are in the same (left) kerning group – should I care?

Re: Keyboard short-cuts
I think the slider could be dynamic. Imagine a linear range of -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3, the user would pull the handle to '1', KO would move the kerning value to '5' per second; at '2' '20' /s; at '3' '100' /s. Regarding up/down arrow: I never use it. I always use the chords of modifier keys and left/right...

Re: Keyboard short-cuts
Alright. The cause of confusion is that for everything else I have to change values with the mouse on the slider. Everywhere except here, where you can not use the mouse on the slider. The cursor keys left/right just move the cursor. If I select the Ind. number and use the cursor keys (with our with...

Re: Keyboard short-cuts
I’m stuck here because no keyboard shortcuts exist, and mousing it won’t let me set an Ind. value.

Enforce the inclusion of ‘special kerning’
I’m having trouble in getting KO to include all the kerning in a set of ‘special kerning’. (Specifically the comma+superiors.)
Is there as way to force the inclusion of ‘special kerning’ before the kerning is trimmed for size? BTW: I’m still at 26kB.

Re: Keyboard short-cuts
That sounds about right – the CTRL and OPT issue. Mousing it is kinda slow but workable.
I think you should make a new set of kerning shortcuts, that is, if you can override all the usual Glyphs shortcuts while the KernOn window is open.

Re: æ has right side group ‘KO_ae’ instead of ‘KO_e’
I can accept anything as long as the fonts are kerned in a visually pleasing way. How the hotdog is made … well, I’m okay with not asking and just eating it ;-)

Re: Disappearing kerning
Ahh, I see. I sometimes start KO to make an adjustment, but then exit it without running the KO generation (because it is time consuming).

Disappearing kerning
Sometimes the kerning is missing from the generated fonts. This usually happens when I work on some glyphs and then generate the fonts. Then I have to let Kern On run a full new kerning to get it back.
Is this expected behaviour? (It is a bit unpractical)

æ has right side group ‘KO_ae’ instead of ‘KO_e’
I just noticed that æ has right side group ‘KO_ae’ instead of ‘KO_e’. Is that something that is hard-coded in Kern-On or can you say why that is the case?

Keyboard short-cuts
I can’t remember if there was ever keyboard short-cuts in KO? In any event I can’t find a short-cut to change the kerning values with the newest version. Using the Glyphs built-in short-cuts for kerning does nothing (was it always like that? I can’t remember). What I am l looking for are keyboard sh...

Thank you. I have never used HT Letterspacer but have put it in the list of things to try in the future.

Stop KO from deleting pairs I just made
So I’m often running into the issue of KO deleting a model right after I made it. KO is doing that because it deviates too much from an existing pair. This is no good. If something has to be deleted to square the circle then delete the older pair, but I’d rather have KO present me a list of changes ...

Re: Normalise kerning to spacing?
Well yes and no. The built-in functionality of Glyphs can link and transform metrics from other glyphs, but I wouldn’t try to make it all balance on one key glyph. That would require a more advanced system to handle it all in one go, and to make sure nothing breaks. The system in Glyphs is also (AFA...

Re: Normalise kerning to spacing?
As an example of working with exceptions, imagine an I, and then set the spacing between two Is. That could be the starting point from where all deviations are ‘exceptions’, eg. the O against the I: IIOII. The sidebearing from I has to be made smaller before you apply it to the O. But what about IOO...

Re: Normalise kerning to spacing?
It would make no sense to separate the automagic spacing from the automagic kerning. I should be possible to make a monolithic system that takes care of both in one go. Let the user set some of the sidebearings and have the system create a system of exceptions (and exceptions to the exceptions) and ...

Normalise kerning to spacing?
I can see that Kern On likes to consistently to consistently kern or space certain glyphs. All fine and good, but it would be real swell if these consistent kerning values could be moved into spacing instead, automatically of course. I’ve found that proceedings move along easier with Kern On are not...

Re: Kern On ‘flavour’?
Let me try: Take the word ‘minimum’ as an example. By ‘picket-fence look’ I mean trying to make the stems fall in as regular pattern as possible – like a picket-fence. As an example look at the three images with FFT overlays in the bottom of this article:

Would it be possible to let us users select ‘strategies’ or ‘flavours’ of kerning? Eg. I would like to achieve a picket-fence look. Would such a thing even be possible for some future version of Kern On?

Re: Largest size before overflow?
Good information Tim, thank you. I can add that when I check the kerning in an HTML document, I can observe that the Safari browser is doing something to the kerning. Either quantising horizontal positions, ‘simplifying’ the kerning table, or outright dropping kerning values. In any event, what look...

Largest size before overflow?
I’m having issues with what I understand must be the final process of Kern On, the removal of ‘less important’ pairs in order to stay under the set kerning table size. However this means that something like the Wa-pair is not included every time in the font I’m working on. Kern On kerns it, but the ...
