Re: Controlling kerning groups

Yes, that's right. I think the glyphs with diacritics should have the same kerning values than the ones without diacritics, at least most of the time. In the examples I sent, I can't understand why Ya is kerned, and Yá has no kerning at all; when I see it in a text, this lack of kerning in Yá stands...

Re: Controlling kerning groups

Is there something I should have done in KO for these glyphs to be correctly kerned?
Or was it something that the plugin should have done already and haven't?

Re: Controlling kerning groups

I forgot to say, but maybe that's relevant for KO, that these glyphs (/a and /e, that were kerned only when they don't have diacritics) are alternates. About what you asked, I'm already dealing with how to make these corrections, but I'm not completely sure that I'll cover everything, so of course a...

Re: Controlling kerning groups

Hello, Tim! I'm still having this kind of output (latest version of KO) And since I'm already advanced in checking all kerning, I don't feel comfortable to get back into KO and make a new model, for example, because this could change other pairs, and I'd have to take a look at everything over again;...

Re: Controlling kerning groups

I admit that I started using a mixed workflow, adjusting pairs after KO in a project, so I can't be sure about what version I used back when I clicked the KO button. But soon I'll use the latest version again and check everything, then I'll get back here to tell my impressions and send my file to Ti...

Re: Controlling kerning groups

Hello, Tim. There's no problem in having different groups with the same result, of course. I understand that having control over this is not a part of the KO workflow you created. The thing is I'm not having an identical rendering in every pair. I've had, for example: LŸ different from LY, and other...

Re: Controlling kerning groups

This (what @rosaiani said) is giving me extra work when checking kerning after KO. I understand that the plugin "reads" the mass of paths in the sides, and diacritics may change that, but I found many cases where I just had to change the group of a composite glyph to make it work. Maybe th...

Re: Lock models

"Maybe you opened a font you had worked on with Kern On version older than 0.9b17?"

I didn't think I had a file saved with such an older version of KO's models, but it probably was the case.
I tried doing it with the most recent version of the plugin, and had no problems.

Re: Lock models

The "Undo" button idea has been coming to my mind a lot lately too. I'm also experiencing a strange behavior of the plugin: if I hit "Kern On" button, test the fonts, and realize I need a new model or exception, I'd go to the file, and open KO again (same master, same models, not...

Re: Masters with linked metrics

Hello Jens!

Both of these matters are being touched in the "Response after 'kern on' button" topic.
They're both relevant for me too, so I think you'd be interested in reading the last few comments there.

Re: Response after "kern on" button

Hello Tim! 25 minutes is totally acceptable. I'm not sure if I, personally, would use a "quick mode", but definitely an option to kern a single master would be great for me. This could let designers choose a more open workflow, trying one master, identifying the best models, testing, and t...

Re: Response after "kern on" button

Hello Tim! I'll keep on testing everything up, but for sure this matter had a huge improvement in my case! After the KO button, the proccess took about 20 to 25 minutes in the 6 masters 1000+ glyphs file, no crashes. :) Also, the progress bar is way better indicating in wich master KO is working at ...

Re: Response after "kern on" button

Hello Tim! Just to advance in the topic: I'm now using Glyphs 3 in the M1 Mac Mini, and still have the same matters. I also tried to use a file with 3 masters instead of 6, but Kern On and Glyphs stops working with about 3/4 of the process done (as showed by the advance bar) after pressing the "...

Re: Kern on with several masters

Thanks, Tim! I understand, and it works. I just thought that maybe including a buttom to copy from other master, the plugin would have "less work" copying an entire table with groups and values rather than "rethinking" every kerning pair and group in a master, just to get to simi...

Re: Kern on with several masters

Does it make sense to have an option like a "copy kerning from other master" button? Maybe an option just like the "Interpolate kerning". I'm thinking about it because of a file where I have romans and obliques together, and since the obliques have the same width and sidebearings...

Re: Response after "kern on" button

Hello Tim! Today I tried the "kern on" button again and the process finished! :) it took a bit more than 2 hours, though. I haven't tried the Glyphs 3 yet because I haven't licensed it. I'll probably do it soon, but anyway, I can send you the font file so you can take a look. What's you em...

Re: Response after "kern on" button

Hello Tim! Thanks for your answer. About the time it takes to finish the process, I'm having trouble because it does not reach the end at all. I'm using an M1 Mac Mini with 16Gb RAM, and I tried waiting for up to 3 hours, but at some point, Glyphs (2) stops working, as I said, and kerning never fini...

Response after "kern on" button

Hello Tim! I've been testing the tool for a few days now, and had a little problem with final process, after pressing the "kern on" button: it does not finish, and at some point Glyphs (2) stops working. I'm trying it in quite a large character set (1207 glyphs), in only one of 6 masters t...
